Railroads
Railroads in the 1920s were quite modern, although use of railroads did begin declining throughout the decade. Steam powered trains were still used and its operating principles were widely understood. Despite the usage of steam powered trains, young designers sought to boost the power and the efficiency of the steam- powered train. This resulted in what Lima Locomotive Works called the "Super Power." This caused Lima's trains to reach a higher horsepower and speed then previously though possible. There were also introductions of reliable and high visibility of signal signs. This caused a boost in safety of the locomotives. All of these growths cause locomotives to become safer and more efficient (1920s Railroad Improvements).
Cars
In the 1920's there were three major automobile companies - Ford, General Motors and Chrysler . The Ford motor company quickly surpassed all of its competitors with its high quality design and moderate prices. It used advanced assembly line techniques to mass produce vehicles and quickly became a popular motor brand. Ford’s mass production techniques were quickly adopted by other American automobile manufacturers and Europeans adopted them in the '30s (Automobiles).
Planes
In the 1920s, planes were used mainly for commercial photography, surveying, law enforcement, agricultural purposes such as seeding and crop dusting, and other activities. Although barnstormers and acrobatic fliers all too often tarnished the image of aviation by performing foolhardy stunts in worn-out military castoffs, the phenomenon of utility aviation attracted increasing numbers of users. By the late 1920s, planes were being used less for warfare and more for transportation with enclosed cockpits that could set 2-5 people and considerable engine noise (General Aviation).
